What We Look For at Every Wedding We Photograph

Howe Farm Georgetown, TN Bride and Groom and classic car.

There’s a moment at nearly every wedding we’ve ever photographed where time seems to slow down. It doesn’t happen during the posed portraits or the grand entrance. It happens in the in-between spaces, the quiet, unscripted seconds that most people don’t even realize are occurring.

That’s exactly where we live with our cameras.

After years of photographing weddings together in Chattanooga and beyond, we’ve learned that the most powerful images aren’t the ones you plan. They’re the ones you catch. And catching them requires knowing where to look, long before the moment ever happens.

Here’s what we’re always watching for.

The Hands

We are obsessed with hands. Trembling hands during the vows. A father’s hand on his daughter’s back before he walks her down the aisle. The way two people reach for each other without even thinking about it. Hands tell the truth of a moment in a way that faces sometimes can’t. We will always, always be watching the hands.

The Person Who Didn’t Expect to Cry

There is always one. Sometimes it’s the groom the moment he sees his bride. Sometimes it’s the tough older brother standing up in the wedding party, jaw tight, trying to hold it together and losing the battle. Sometimes it’s a grandmother in the third row who has waited decades to see this day. We scope out the room early. We find the people who love the couple most fiercely, and we keep one eye on them throughout the ceremony, because that raw, unguarded emotion is some of the most beautiful work we get to capture.

The Look That Wasn’t Meant for Anyone Else

You know the one. The groom glancing at his bride while she’s talking to someone else, not performing love for a camera, just feeling it. The bride watching her new husband laugh with his best friend during cocktail hour. These are the moments that make people stop scrolling when they see their gallery. These are the images people frame and hang above their fireplace. We watch for them constantly, quietly, from across the room.

The Small Moments Between the Big Ones

Wedding days are full of grand gestures; the first kiss, the first dance, the cake cutting. But some of our favorite images come from the moments nobody puts on the timeline. The flower girl twirling by herself in the corner. The best man straightening the groom’s tie right before the doors open. The bride stealing a quiet breath alone before everything begins. These tiny moments carry so much weight, and they vanish in seconds if you’re not paying attention.

The Way a Room Feels

Before we ever raise our cameras, we walk the space. We note where the light falls at different times of day. We find the corners and doorways and alcoves that will frame a moment beautifully. We think about where people will naturally gather, where emotions will run highest, where the story is going to unfold. We photograph weddings the way a good storyteller writes, with the ending in mind, always looking for the threads that will tie everything together.

The Couple, Just Being Themselves

Somewhere in every wedding day, usually when the couple thinks nobody is watching, they have a moment that is entirely, completely them. An inside joke that makes them both dissolve into laughter. A quiet forehead-to-forehead moment between songs. A look that says we actually did it. That moment is different for every couple, and it is always worth waiting for.

We show up to every single wedding we photograph carrying a deep belief that love is worth documenting fully, not just the highlight reel, but the weight and the warmth and the wild, beautiful realness of it.

We’re not just there to take pictures. We’re there to tell your story.

If you’re planning your wedding in Chattanooga or anywhere beyond, we would love to be the ones behind the cameras. Both of us, together, watching for every moment that matters.

Let’s talk.
